Alma Othela Norton of Tusculum passed away Tuesday January 9, 2024 peacefully in her home surrounded by family at the age of 91.
She was a member of New Haven church as well as a former employee of Magnavox.
Her family was her greatest joy. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Within days of being married, her late husband was deployed to Korea for the war. He took her photograph and had pictures of himself holding her photo overseas. And upon his return home they set to work building a farm, a family, and a beautiful life together. Food was her love language. Each grandchild had a favorite dish, and she taught kitchen and life skills while passing on those recipes. Chicken casserole, chocolate chip cookies, deviled eggs, Boston cream pie, and sweet potato casserole – all now made in their own kitchens for their own families. And now with even more sentiment behind them.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Ruble Norton; parents: Chester and Nell Norton; 2 brothers Arnold Norton and Gene Norton; 4 sisters Shelby Cutshall, Fannie Rogers, Gay Croft, Blanche Mathes. She is survived by: a daughter, Tammie Feathers; a son: Kenneth (Kelyn) Norton; granddaughters: Ashley (Joe) Craven, Savannah (Brad) Griffin, Ariel (Logan) Minnick; a grandson Tad (Meagan) Norton; great-grandsons: Joseph and Kaz Craven, Easton and Zeke Griffin, Kieran and Camden Minnick; a great-granddaughter Blakeleigh Craven; a brother Larry Norton (Ron Carpenter); several nieces and nephews; and special friends and neighbors: Mike and Kathy Myers, Ted and Louise Wilhoit, and Chris Wilhoit.
The family expresses their gratitude to Amedisys Home Health, Amedisys Hospice, as well as individual caretakers Anne Kilday, Naomi Long, Marlene Waddell, and Roxanne Woodby.
The family will receive visitors from 5-7 p.m. Friday January 12, 2024 at Jeffers Funeral Chapel at Afton.
Funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Bobby Morrison officiating.
Graveside services will be Saturday at 11am in Graceland Memorial Gardens
Pallbearers will include Tad Norton, Joe Craven, Logan Minnick, Mike Myers, Matthew Myers, and Chris Wilhoit.
