William David Morrell, 91, surrounded by his loving family, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 23, 2015. He was born December 14, 1923, the son of the late William Daniel Morrell and the late Anna Dorothy Crumley in Greene County, TN.. Mr. Morrell was retired from Babcock and Wilcox Company in Lynchburg, Va. as a nuclear inspector. He was previously employed at the Sperry Corporation in Bristol, TN., and the Brunswick Corporation in Sugar Grove, Va. David was an active member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Glade Spring, Va. and was a WWII Veteran, serving in England and Germany during his service. Mr. Morrell was a proud member of the Francis Marion VFW Post 4667 in Marion, Va. David was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a friend to all. He was preceded in death by his wife, Violet C. Morrell, the mother of his children; sisters, Rosemary Westfall and Glenna Nease; special niece, Anna Gentry. Survivors include his wife, Betty J. Morrell of Chilhowie; Daughter, Donna M. Cruise and husband Robert F. Cruise Sr. of Abingdon, Va.; Son, William “Bill” Morrell and wife Mary Beth Morrell of Blountville, TN.; Step-daughter, Sandra Kay Owens and husband Grant Owens of Glade Spring, Va.; Step-daughter, Debbie Atkins of Glade Spring, Va.; five grandchildren, Karen McMackin, Robert Cruise Jr., Vanessa Robertson, Brad Morrell, and Kelli J. Spiva; two step-grandchildren, Diane Owens and Beth Owens of Glade Spring, Va.; and several great grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 7 PM Monday, Jan. 26, 2015 at Williams Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Gary officiating. Graveside services will be conducted 11 AM Tuesday, Jan. 27 in the High Point Cemetery located at the High Point Presbyterian Church in Bristol, Va. with Rev. David Gary officiating. Military graveside rites will be rendered by Francis Marion VFW Post 4667. Friends and family are asked to meet at the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Monday, Jan. 26 prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Jackson Cruise, Robert Cruise Jr., Roger Gillenwater, Jake McMackin, Jim McMackin, Josh McMackin, Brad Morrell, and Dewey Spiva.
